LOL I am not the know all...WHen I had questions about things to feed the crabs, I asked Kerie(Julia Crab) how to determine if plants were safe. She said to google it like this:
(plant name) + toxic
You can even do
(plant name) + pesticide

Go through the links that pop up. If there's nothing that shows it toxic to anything you can do a feeding trial, but only if you feel comfortable doing so. Keep a log as to how much was fed, the date and then dont try it again for like 3-4 months. Note anything such as dropped limbs, crabs acting weird, deaths etc.

Some crab owners will do feeding trials. There is a risk ofcourse.

when i saw that i started lookng up plants and stuff and chose what i believe is a pretty good rule of thumb " If i can't have it they can't either" should i stick with that because some animals can eat what we can't

I don't know... I wouldn't risk the life of my hermies over a flower. I would just feed them something else, but thats just my opinion.

Hibiscus is safe for crabs. I've used this kind in my food mixes and it's perfectly fine. Hopefully it helps others out with deciding.

Also known as- Hibiscus sabdariffa, red sorrel, African Mallow, Indian Sorrel, Jamaica Sorrel, Jamaica Tea Flower, and Roselle.
