I'm new too, but I think (remember I said think) that you rack them up from the number of posts in the forums. There may be other ways, but I don't know about them. Me, I have had tons of questions so I've gotten a few points already! There are some really knowledgable folks on here that are happy to help out a crabber in need of advice. I don't know what I would have done without this site! Big Thanks to all the members!
Hope I managed to help...

Well, my son (7) was convinced that Bubbles the Betta was lonely.
So, we went to the PS and asked what fish could possibly survive with a Betta. Right now our guy is in a 1/2g little tank (the 1.5 is on the way So the guy suggested a shrimp. Normally they are bought as food for other pets but my son thought it was a fab idea so I caved. For .30c I can afford to give it a try. Speedy and Bubbles seemed to be getting along fine, but I found him dead this morning. Of course he was the biggest shrimp they had so maybe he was just old? I really don't think that Bubbles attacked 'cuz he would have done that when we first put Speedy in the tank right? Anywho, at least Alex wasn't traumatized by the loss. Oodles o' Toodles

Are you sure it was Speedy, and not his exo?
I've never tried to keep anything with a betta -- maybe it takes a larger tank to be successful. And I think it depends on the temprament of the betta. Incidentally, I think you also get karma points for PMs (personal mails) you send, not just for posts. So your karma points may not match your post count exactly.

Thanks for the karma info...moire I swear you know everything!
Re: Speedy I saw a non moving shrimp lying on his side. I swished the net and he didn't flinch..normally he pings around like a pinball anytime anyone enters the room. I hope I didn't accidentally throw away a molting shrimp! Does anyone know what one of those looks like? Or a freshly molted shrimp? They move right? Lord I hope I didn't kill the little guy... Now I've got research to do... Wish me luck in clearing my conscience! -C

Rest your conscience. I worked in a Shrimp hatchery and they do move when they molt, if not they'd be instant snack to predators. Shrimp are VERY sensitive to PH levels, temperature, etc. They are hard to keep.

Thank you gweebles. I feel a little better, but guess that means the poor guy just wasn't suited to our little tank. I didn't realize they were difficult to keep, guess that's why most people just buy them as food for other pets?
Thanks again
