I am new and new to crabbing

My name is Kim and I just joined this site. I am new to crabbing, only 2 1/2 months. I only have 3 crabs now, one passed away a month after I had him. My other ones are doing great. I am still trying to figure out what kind they are.

Thanks. I now have FOUR Hermit Crabs. I got one yesterday from Petsmart. He is a little bigger then my other one's, he is doing great and has great color.

I am not sure how to post pictures on here, so if anyone can help me that would be great.

I can't help you post pictures because I don't even know how to work my digital camera. But there is a great site that may help you identify your crabs. It's 品種介紹

HERMEZ also has wonderful species ID's. That is how I learned all the species and how to ID mine! Just click on the photobucket link in her signature and then click on Species.

If you bought them from Petsmart or Petco, they are most likely run of the mill PPs (Purple Pinchers)....PPs had a huge Big Pincher (BP) or "Soldier claw" that is purplish in color and have round eyes on their eye stalks. Petco also carries Strawberry Crabs (Straws) from time to time. Straws are as bright red as a strawberry and do not have a huge BP. E's (Ecudorians) are usually bluish green in color and do not have a BP. Their eyes are elongated. Try the ID chart....I also have some photos of my crabs in the Photo albums and my old posts. All of my crabs are PPs. YOu can see how they vary in color, but they all have the BP.

hi everyone,
i just got my first hermit crab about 4 days ago (killer is his name) and he's been doing great, i read on the internet to get him company, so today i went to the pet store and got another one, same size and all. Brought him home, put him in the tank with killer, go for dinner, come back and he is gone. Ive looked all over the tank for any signs that he mite have dug under. is he molting already? or is it possible that the other one at him and hid the shell? shud i ry and find him? today i come home from work, and now killer is gone as well. i have an empty tank, lol. and i am worried about my little ones. any advice? thank you !
