Hi Rachael!
Yeah, I started out with 1 crab. Then 2. Now I have 3. Where will it end?? Who knows. I'm told that hermit crabs are social creatures, so you can tell your mom that it's almost cruel to subject that little crabbie to a lonely life of solitude. I got my one crab a friend. They totally ignore each other and in fact don't even seem to like each other! Then I got a third (a teeny tiny guy I named Goliath. LOL!) and the other two ignore him, too. So I don't know where this idea comes from about crabs being social creatures, but it's sure not happening in my tank! But at least one of them is usually up and about, so there's usually someone to watch. I like to watch them eat, climb and play with stuff I put in the tank. Give your one crab time to destress, then try to talk mom into at least one more crabbie. Everyone needs a buddy! You're going to love this site! Lots of info and support. Good luck, Donna M. |

My hubby kind of feels the same way....when I mention getting another one he says, "Oh, great! Another crab just what we need" and rolls his eyes....yet when a newbie comes through the door he always seems a bit curious

My husband didn't care one way or the other when I first started. Now he plays with them every day. Since I get up later than he does, I get a morning crab report every day. Who changed shells, who came up, who went down......
