Okay.....I was out of ton for four days. I left a dry mix of coconut, sunflower seeds, rolled oats, and corn meal. I lifted the lid to check on a hermie today and was greeted by a strong acetone-like smell.....I concluded that the food dish was the source after a nose test. The smell seems to be subsiding, but I've never smelt anything like that in the tat.
I even made sure my hubby didn't use any cleaning chemicals near the tat. I also dug up a portion of my hemp ladder that was buried and it is starting to decay....is that normal with hemp nets?

Strange that the food dish started to smell. What is it made of?
As for hemp decaying - it is a natural substance and I would think eventually given the dampness, it would do that. It has not happened to me, though |

The shell is a natural sea shell....I think it could have been one of the items starting to ferment....don't seem to have any drunken crabs
![]() The smell is completely gone now and all the crabs seem fine. The food had to be the source.
