Please give me good reasons to get hermit crabs. I bought almost everything to be able to properly own a hermit crab (and spoil it), but now I rethinking my actions. Help me!

I think they are so interesting as a pet, I started out with one and I now have 14 of them. They each have neat personalities, some are inactive at times, and others never seem to stop.
I find them very easy to take care of, once you get the hang of it. They don't need constant attention like a cat or dog, so if you have a busy day they won't pee on the floor as a reaction of feeling neglected.
I would say to start with 2 crabs. Then if you find you don't like it, you can always put them up for adoption.

Well, I bought all of the supplies for one, and then suddenly woke up in the middle of the night (2 in the morning, to be exact) and wondered, "why am i getting one?". But then I came to this website, read all of the neat stuff you can do with them, and decided to ask what the opinions of the pros are.

The pros - you have entertainment. When you wake in the morning the first thing you do is check to see who is still up and how bad did they trash the tank. (they do do a bit of reorganizing).
When you can't sleep at night, you go to the tank to watch them.
They keep you out of trouble.

More Pros: Once you have a tank set up, there is little else to do besides giving fresh water and food. Depending on the kind of substrate you use, a deep clean of the tank is not needed very often. (once every 6 months or longer)

You will want to get at least two, maybe more. Not just for the social interaction between them, but when they bury themselves or hide under the hut to destress or molt, you'll have nothing but an empty tank to look at. I had two crabs, and hardly ever saw them, and almost gave them up. So I got another. Then another. The fourth one I just got about ten days ago, and he explored and ate like crazy for a day or two, then buried himself. I think he was overdue for a molt. But my two larger ones have each molted at least once, and they are fairly active. I never get tired of watching them walk around, climb, eat, and sometimes wrestle like they hate each other. Then they both end up in the hut and take a nap together. It's so cute!

Let us know how you make out.

Hard to believe, but they can have you in stitches. We like the hands on approach, which makes holding them subject to more hysterical laughter. Not that anyone in this forum is an enabler but I would start with three medium smalls and let the fun begin!

SECOND THOUGHTS? Here, Let me help!
I agree that they are easy to care for once you get the tank established. No litter box to clean, no barking (or too much noise)...just the eerie scritch scratch on the glass or the bumps in the night when they scale something a flll into the glass. They do try to run away from home occasionally, but if you weight down the lid, that will decrease the odds of that happening...no vet bills!! You will find yourself totally addicted and wondering how come you ever had second thoughts.
Go for it and have fun getting to know your new friends!
