So you think you might want a hermit crab to keep as another decoration in your room? Think again! Hermit crabs want to live free in the sunshine, not bottled up in aquariums. They want to hang out with their friends. In fact, when they are allowed to grow up in their natural habitat, they live in colonies of up to 100 or more. Hermit crabs only live in warm parts of the world. They will only lay their eggs in the ocean and will not reproduce in captivity—so that means that every crab in every tourist shop and pet store was ripped away from his or her home and family. These little guys need your help! What can you do? Never buy a hermit crab or support a store that sells them. Educate your friends! Tell everyone you know why hermit crabs don’t make good pets.

Thousands of hermit crabs are sold to tourists in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and destined to spend their lives inside glass tanks—bored, lonely, and far from their real homes in the South.

I found this online while reading up on hermit crabs and it has broke my heart. That's saying a lot from an 18 year old dude. I really am interested in this but reading that has sort of upset me.

PETA doesn't want you to eat meat eaither. I bet those cows and chickens would like to roam free in the sun also but they are food.

Even though hermit crabs are our friends and we love to take care of them we are kind of ripping them away from their friends and natural habitat. But like other pets like dogs and cats we must make them as happy as possible, give them proper nourishment, and simulate their natural habitat. Heck, they need friends too so have more than one to keep them happy.
