I ordered a finger sponge from naples sea shell co along with my shells last week. I figured it would be a fun thing for the crabs to climb on. I soaked it in salt water to kill any bacteria and then laid it out to the shape I wanted to dry before adding it to the tank. After I put it in I think every crab who wasn't under molting suddenly became very active (this was daytime). I noticed that it gives off a faint beachy smell in the tank. Do you suppose they like the smell?

My crabs had the same reaction when I first gave them finger sponge. They dont pay as much attention to it anymore but it has become a regular part of thier diet. They have eaten off all of the tips.

Well, fancy seeing you here! LOL, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that anyone with anything to do with crabs would be here! Small world. I would imagine your crabs are quite spoiled.
They love that sponge & it looks way cool in the tank too. I actually cut it down into two *trees* for them.

My crabs love their finger sponge, too. One day I found four of my five Straws up in the fingers.
