Both of my hermies have been buried for about 2 weeks. And I've been so concerned. They're both fairly new, though, so I understand. But today I woke up and Tiki had dug out a hole right next to the side of the tank!
I was so excited. I got to see her/him (haven't been able to sex this one yet...) and his/her shell. I couldn't tell if s/he was in it or not, though. I didn't see Kauai but I'm sure he's down there somewhere. Just wanted to share this exciting bit of news. I got a few pics too! I'll upload them to photobucket.

Well, she's been under the sand for more than 2 weeks. Anyway, I just sexed Tiki ad she is female which is great because I've been calling her a female since bringing her home, thinking that you couldn't sex hermies at first. Her gonopores are so TINY!

Congrats on the molt! I am jealous. My hermies don't show me their sex.
Did you need a magnifying glass to see them (cuz they are 'so tiny') ? How did you coax her to come out of her shell? |

It is always a relief when you can see for yourself that they are okay
![]() I have one crab that I haven't seen in quite a while and I wish he would dig a window.

Wiz, no I didnt need a magnifying glass -- I just looked very closely. Well, I pick up my hermies and then flip them upside down, they always come out of their shell enough so I can see their last pair of legs. I feel bad because they probably don't like being upside down, but I only did it to sex them.
Chuck Norris, thanks! I like your signature quotes, too. Kracker'sMom, yeah! Hope your crabby comes up soon.

but my babies love to see me so when I hold them they come way out of there shells, and I just turn them upside down for a second so they are hanging and you can see, It's harder to see on the smaller crabs but the big ones you can see quite easily. Oh and congrats on the molt Stephen, I wish mine would molt.... waiting patently....
