(Large Crab)
|
I'm not sure what is going on, but my son found what appears to be a dropped limb in the 29 gallon crabitat
. It's definitely a dropped limb because it is very solid, not hollow like a molted exo. I'm hoping it may have been a case of one of my medium crabs getting stuck in the netting a dropped a limb to get free. It is highly likely that it came from Neptune. He has been doing the nocturnal thing lately where he hides all day and only comes out late at night. Spooky is down for a molt, as well as Violet. I found Fester in a new shell and I'm sure he is recently molted.....he's pushed so far up in a new shell that you can barely even tell there's a crab in there. SO, do you guys think I have a problem with a crab? I'll be watching for more limbs .......

The only time it happened to one of my crabs, he died but it was the big PP. Hopefully yours will be just fine. I have read from others that their crabs have hobbled around with missing legs. Maybe he is going to molt soon and it will grow back. Good luck!!

Mine have only dropped limbs from PPS, unforturnately they died shortly afterward. If the limb you found is from an established crab, you are probably okay. Just keep an eye on 'em! Keep us posted.

one of my crabs lost like half a leg the other day, i found it in the salt water dish.
do i worry? shud i leave the leg? its bright white, and my crab came up the other day from being in the sand a couple days, and instead of his usualy green-blueish colour, he was this bright white with a little orange/red on his claws. what is going on?

Newfoundlove - is the leg solid or hollow? From the color change - it sounds like he molted. If the leg is hollow, break it up and offer it in the food dish.
krackersmom - You are probably right about getting stuck in the net. Watch them carefully. Hopefully it wasn't a shell fight. |

I would not worry like Ali's mom said- a dropped leg from someone molting can often surface with diggers around.......or many other scenarios
