Exclamation help! my crab looks like he is turning into a bird!

i use EE so it is hard to tell what is part of the EE and what is part crab and what is part exo.1 crabby [my baby] has lost a limb, but i usually only find bits and peices because they usually weat their exo. i have only had my baby molt, he molted twice in just 3 months, but that is good, the other smaller one hasn't molted, i got him when i got zombie [my baby] and i have noticed these copper-colored stiff feathery thingeys sticking out of his exo and he look a little furry. not sure what that means, he is more friendly now, i can pick him up alot more now, he crawls around everywhere when i do. what do those feathery thingeys mean? why hasn't he molted and my other one has so soon? could zombie lose a walking leg while molting? could my other crab [ultamo, a medium] that just went under to molt i think, could he lose a limb as well? should i use something along with or other than just EE? please help, I want them to be as comfortable as possible.

Haven't got a clue what the coppery feathery things are .. do you have any pictures? Are you sure it's not just his hair? Mine got hairy after his molt.

As for losing limbs, they usually do this when they are stressed. Not quite sure why your crabs would lose legs while molting though. I suppose anything is possible but if they are not stressed out and the conditions are good, they should be fine.

Maybe your crab that molted 2 times had some catching up to do? Mine finished his molt in December and is down again now. I don't think anyone knows why one would molt before the another. I guess they know what they are doing and when they are ready and the time is right, they'll do it.

I use playsand in my 'tat but I have heard of people only using EE so I'm sure it's fine.

it could be his exo coming off i wouldnt know till i seen a picture and as for using something other then eco earth i would suggest having your tank have ee and half play sand that way they have a choice of were they can dig down. My tank used to be half ee but i notice when anyone dug down they would choose the play sand so i just took the ee out n since then they have been more active and happy just a suggestion.
