Question Back to back or multiple successive molts

Having just experienced this myself, I am starting to really dig into this subject because it has me baffled.
Jethro was a little Ruggie I had that molted came up for a week, went back down for a month, came back up molted again for another week and then went back down for a month and came back up and died.
Why do crabs molt successively like this? Do their hormones go haywire? Is it a result of holding off so long that they just can't stop? Is it something I've done?
Has anyone else experienced this? I would like anyone's opinions, suggestions or advice!

Well as you know molting can be very stressful on a crab. And as i just learned that larger crabs that have been on the beach for a long time. Some cant properly adapt to molting in a tank after that. So i was told it is actually better to go with smaller or medium sized crabs. Hope maybe that helps explain it a little bit and im really sorry about you losing your crabs my crab jumbo just died lastnight.

Jethro was a medium Ruggie...I don't think he was that large...
I'm sorry to hear about your loss as well.

This phenomenon really just has me baffled.

It just seems there is a deeper reason, ya know? Like a food starved animal that gobbles everything up even tho he gets three squares...he's always afraid he'll never eat again. It's like the crab felt like he'd never have the conditions to molt again and just kept on!

It seems more physiological...
