I believe we have all "pp's" as you refer to them but one is a lilac grey so maybe an INDI?
Was wondering where to find a strawberry? We are near Boston and the Petsmart only gets what shows up.( our petsmart store has been great care sheets, they have resident hermi specialst wo works nights and crab tank is cool and weel taken care of) So just if anyone can help me I would love to add maybe one or two more crabbies but would like to get straw or another breed to really show our diversity. I think the crabs are startn to grow on hubby now lol he had Quizmo out on keyboard the other night. She really enjoys logging on to sites and hang out lol. I say it is a she, she is grey in a white grey shell and quite the chatty thing and doesnt run just sits and chats. LOL
thnks for the help.

Lisa and the boys(my sons)

Lisa,
Do you have a PetCo near you? They typically carry Rugosus (ruggies), Perlatus (straws), Brevimanus (indos), Clypeatus (pp's) and the occasional Cavipes. I completely understand you wanting to get some different species. Once I was hooked on these litte guys, my goal was to find them all-which I have since done. The only options you have are to cruise the stores and keep calling them (which most likely won't do any good since most employees can't tell the difference between the species) or have them shipped to you.

Just a note if you ever consider having them shipped...I am not vehemently against shipping, however, I wouldn't encourage it either. You should give serious consideration to the following.

1. You should wait until the spring when the weather is warmer since shipping in the harsh conditions of winter will most likely leave you disappointed with crabbie deaths.

2. The place that ships your crabs should have let them destress prior to shipping them to you-this includes if you have another member somewhere send you crabs. They should keep them at least 6 weeks before they send them to you. I don't know for certain-it's just a hunch, but I think it may give the crabs a better chance of surviving the stress of being shipped.

3. Research any online stores before you decide to use them...utilize the search function in a few different forums and you will most likely find some posts worth reading.

4. By placing your trust in someone else to choose your crabs, you won't have the chance to examine and judge for yourself whether the crab is active and seemingly healthy or sick/weak and possibly infested with mites.

I have had crabs shipped to me. The first was from an online store and it was prior to October 1. I received two perlatus, one xl brevimanus, one small brevimanus, and four micro clypeatus. Only two of the micros (now much larger) and the small brevimanus remain. 3 out of 8.
I have also had a dozen cavipes shipped to me and almost all of them died within the first 2-3 weeks. As of now, only 3 remain. 3 out of 12. The odds haven't been too good for me with shipped crabs. Perhaps it was because they (Cavipes) traveled a longer way after being harvested-maybe there was some pathogen carried by one or more of the crabs-no one knows for certain, but it does seem likely that shipping played at least a small part in their deaths.

I have only seen Clypeatus at the PetSmart near me and the only one I purchased from them died a few weeks later. PetCo seems to have a much better selection and their set up is much better as well-at least the ones in my area.
