Hello all....I have a 55 gallon tank and I was wondering how many medium sized crabs can live together comfortably. It's easy to get carried away, and I don't want to over-crowd. I have a second story section too, but I could use a guideline. Thanks

to me the safest way to gauge how many you can have is to ask "can they all molt if they all molted at the same time" highly unlikely but that is the way I judge- levels give a false sense of security-in the end if there is room to molt then you have it covered, you are so smart to think about this off the bat- KUDOS to you! This also leaves room for growth. I think the old gauge was 3G per medium- have you seen the chart that is used? its on "another" site so I cant link it

As usual, thank you both so much for the great info. Thank you too "WizKidsMom" for looking that up. It looks like I have plenty of room to add a few more. I have seven and I thought I would get five more. My tank is set up so that the Ecco Earth is high on one end of the tank (4"), and slopes down to about 1" on the other end where the food and water dishes are. I figured I'd do the dish area that way to keep them from burying under them and becoming stuck or crushed.
I live about 1 1/2 hours from the Ocean here in MD. and I thought I'd go on another "seek and rescue" mission, and pick up a few more shells too so I could switch them around this winter. p.s. Sending you both a smile and a Great Big thumbs up for taking the time and "being there" for all of us! |
