Hi, I'm New Here!

Hi everyone! I have a question about humidity...
In the previous crabitat I had, keeping things humid was never a problem. It was a glass tank with a glass top and very little ventilation. Instead I had a problem with mold if I didn't keep the lid partially off. I've since upgraded to a bigger crabitat and love it. There is so much more room and everyone seems to like it. Problem is, it's a tank I suppose is really more for reptiles and therefore has too much ventilation to keep the environment humid. Each morning I check on them, almost all the water is gone from both bowls and the sand is as dry as can be. I am thinking this is why they tend to stay buried all the time. I was thinking of creating a sort of half-cover out of plastic or maybe wrapping the lid in saran wrap (this would leave the vents that are at the top on the sides of the tank still open for some ventilation). Anyone have any other suggestions?

I also have a reptile breeder tank with a screen lid. I was having problems with humidity and purchased a glass lid to fit the top and it works. I actually ordered it from drfostersmith.com and I had it shipped to me. I just sit the glass lid over the screen and it keeps the humidity in with no problems. I also added a shower caddy with damp coconut fiber in it for a second level and it may be helping too. Between both of them my humidity stays around 75-80% all the time. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback! My lid isn't really screen, it's one of those raised plastic lids like you see on the small reptile carriers. It's a very odd size so I'm not sure I'd find a lid to put on that would fit.
