Default Letting your hermis out

I let my hermies out of their tank to run around my room every few days. Is this okay? Do other people on this forum do this as well? I'm assuming that I shouldn't let them stay out for too long because they need to be in a place with a specific temperature and humidity.

Also, never tried this, but do you think if I put them in a small carrier, they would like to spend time outside?

Thanks in advance!

I believe that the majority of crabbers try to keep their crabs in as natural environment as possible. This means a basically "hands-off" approach as much as possbile. Also, it's really not necessary for them to get out to "exercise" if they have a properly set up 'tat.

If they have plenty of climbing stuff, they really don't need exercise. I know a person who has a baby pool for her hermies exercise. She has plastic baskets and plastic gutter guard in there for them to climb around on.

How humid does it outside get by you? That would be the one thing to worry about when thinking of taking them outside.

Thanks guys. I know it gets really humid here in the summer but I'd have to do some research to get the exact numbers.

Ooooh I'd love to see a picture of something set up like that! That would be so neat!

Just let the hermez out while you do the dusting and just follow them all over the house. They'll love you for it.

Seems that it's okay to let them out as long as you have it under control.

Found this funny: Carol, who owns Jon and Kate, the 32 year olds, lets them out daily and they have the run of the house. But sometimes when it's their bedtime, she can't find them. So she has to start crawling around her house with a flashlight, trying to find them so they can go nighty-night!

I have a small hamster ball that I let mine run in. She loves to run around on my kitchen floor! (we have cats, so the ball also keeps her safe, and the cats love to follow her around, cause they have no idea what she is) I keep a watch on them to make sure the cats don't try to play too rough, but they normally just trail the little ball wherever it goes! lol

Sometimes I let Nemo and Berry walk around the kitchen counter. I read a book that said it was fine to do that, but not for too long! I even have a hamster ball for them!
