I take mine out all the time, but I only leave them out for a few minutes. I hardly ever take them outside, though. I'm scared they'll eat something poisonous and die.

I only take mine out when I am cleaning there tank or refreshing the water or some such, but I put them in a pan or a box with there shells with I clean. Are the hamster balls safe?

I have seen others have the hamster balls, I got a small one for dwarf hamsters, I have only put Kermi in it so far but she seemed to like it.

I think it's ok. I let mine out too. Once they did a houdini trick on me and I freaked! So just make sure to keep a close eye--they weren't lying when they say hermits are escape artists. :-)
