Many people will say go for EE. I tried it and my crabs hated it. I had it in for about 3 months and none of my crabs woud go in it. Not even when I put their favorite hidey in it.

Now I buy already treated sand, which has some EE, but not very much, probably less than 20%.

You might have to experiment a bit to see what your crabs like.

so sand is ok to use? I read up on the Calci sand which we saw at the petsmart..but I though I remember everyone here saying no way. How do you get the sand that has some EE in it? Where do you buy already treated sand? Also, if I go get play sand from home depot..do I need to bake it? Or should it be ok to just mist a little and put it in the tank?

Pure calci sand is a no no. You can buy sanatized sand called 'Play Sand' at your local hardware stores. Thats the stuff to use.

I agree with playsand 100%! You might want to check, but I think peat moss is on the "no-no" list.....double check though. I just avoid moss right now since I don't have the time to mess with finding it.

PETdiscounters.com - Discount Pet Products | Hermit Crab Supplies

they have the three bricks for about $7 i just ordered a bunch of stuff for them and they're fast as shipping the order as well, i was very very pleased and everything is so cheap compared to the petsmarts and petcos around here.
