Default Shell Help

How can you tell the difference between D and O openings on shells? Is there a list or anything to help? Also, how do you know what size opening of a shell your new hermit crab needs? How do you find out?
Are these D or O openings?

Pics 1, 2 (from what I can see) and the last pic are D openings, in that the opening looks like a sideways D.
The best way to find out what size opening you need is to measure the opening of the shell your crab is currently in. As hard as that may be!!
If not, measure the opening of a shell that they have recently worn, and use those measurements when you go shopping for a bigger shell. Bring a measuring tape to the store even, that way you know for sure you're getting a bigger size and not the same as what you already have.

I'm not exactly sure what you would call it. My crabs show no interest in those shells, or any with that opening. However I have seen alot of pics with crabs wearing those type of shells.
The best you can do it put a bunch of shells in your tank and see what they seem to like best.

Those are D shaped shell openings. PP and rugs don't like those kinds of openings but E's and Straws do.

All are D shaped openings except for the shells in the second picture. Those look like they're more O shaped openings to me.
