Random legs??

I got one of those feeder type things where you fill it up and it just leaves enough to eat. I use this for water and it works great. Any pet store should have it and they're not expensive.

Food: I know people don't like this product, but there's nothing harmful in them. It's called Hermit Crab Vacation Food. It's 4 discs and one is supposed to feed 3 medium crabs for 5 days. I paid $2.50 from the Crabbage Patch, but stores in your area must carry them. I also left larger then usual bowls with both water and salt water - and don't forget the water feeder.

I get Blaze88's kibbles from the Crabbage Patch also, but others, like The Happy Hermit, also make some kind of kible. The kibble is dry and supposed to have every thing needed to supply 100% of the nutrients that crabs need. Nothing can be 100% but close enough.

Then I put in a few shells with their favorite things that won't spoil: worm castings, a home-made calcium mixture.

As I leave, with a tissue dabbing my eyes, they all look at me with their bright little eyes, saying to me...Would you get going already?

Yes, I picked up some more food, and I will have to go back out to get some of those vacation disks...
I think that I will still take them over to my friend's house: and that's another question....
How do I transport them?
He lives thirty minutes away from me, so I don't want to take the tank completely apart and put them in travel containers like I do when I take them back and forth to/from college every summer...
Should I just carefully lift the tank and have it ride in somebody's lap on the way up there?
I think that's what I might do...

So get them enough food/water where they SHOULD be fine but still keep them under supervision.
Sounds like a plan for me.

My son brought home some of those vacation disks and I didn't even give them a second look since they were commercial...I just assumed they had the usual no-no stuff in them. I will look at the packaging on the ones he bought. I went away last week and just left stuff that I thought wouldn't spoil. I came home to a really freaky smell in my smaller tank! The biger tank with the same food was fine

Mori, How big/small is your tank? If you can lift it or have some one help, place it in the back seat. You can wrap a towel(s) around it to cushion it and then use the seat belt to hold it in place.
Naturally you want to empty the water bowls so they don't slosh around. And use twist ties for any cords hanging.

My tank is a 10 gal... I took the crabs to my friend's today.
I had my roomate put the crabs in the backseat for me and I seatbelted them in and sat back there with them while she drove....
And now... my friend has an extra crab to care for... lol!
She's my first ever medium!
I went to Petco to pick up some of the vacation stuff you guys were talking about, only to find that there was no more hermit crab food there!
I was waiting for an assistant, and decided to look at the hermit crabs while I was waiting (they are right next to the empty food shelf)
To my surpise, the smalls were $1.50!!
So when the lady came I told her I wanted a small, but there were no smalls, so she gave me an (energetic) medium for the price of a small!
