I use Instant Ocean because it's the only kind my pet store carries. But it's one of the better ones, as is API. You can use any saltwater mix that they have for fish.

Is there a special recipe - or follow the API directions? The regular gallon recipe doesn't seem very salty.

I use the API salt and just kinda eyeball it!! I mix up my waters in two-litre bottles so it's always ready. I just pour some salt in! Always had good luck with it!
