(Micro Crab)
|
One of my little guys like to stay on its side. No matter where I find it, it is always on its side completely in its shell. I know it is not molting and I know you realy shouldn't disturb them in the case of a possible molt, but I get them out of their cubby hole and move them in the tank so they will get used to their new surroundings. At this time, it is roaming around. Why do you think he likes it on his side so much? Weird.

I have one that sleeps like that, but the shell is WAY to big for him so I figure it's gravity! He has been in this large shell for awhile and no problems so I wouldn't worry. Crabs always keep us guessing.

Yes, they love to do things that stress us out, probably payback for them being stressed.

dgh,
How long have you had your crabs? You shouldn't be disturbing them if you got them within a month or two. They need to de-stress and get use to their new surroundings on their own. |

A number of experience crabbers no longer isolate their new crabs. If the crab has come from poor humidity conditions, then you would want to take some time to get them used to the proper humidity level. But after checking for mites, I put them into the main tank. Of my established colony of 14 PPs and Es, I have 11 that are almost to over one year old and the remaining four I've had for 7 months. My husband handles them on a daily basis and I've never lost a crab to PPS.

I wasn't talking about ISOing the crabs - just giving a hands off until they adjust. Everyone has their system/routine and have good results with it. I leave them alone.
