hehehe Could you guys help? I understand a few of the abbreviations you use here, such as indo-indonesian, and E-equadorian. At least I think so. But there are so many abbreviations used and I'm a bit lost right now Also another question of mine is what are all of the species of hermit crabs available as pets? I know of the indonesian, equadorian, and strawberry. What are the others, and what do they look like in general?? thanks so much

Well, as for abbreviations, another one is PP, which is Purple Pincher. Purple Pinchers are usually the easiest crab to get. There's also Ruggie's (Rugosus), and Cavipes. They are the other three available in the US. There is also the Crazy Crab (from Australia) Crazy Crabs are VERY hard to get, and not exactly legal in the US. Don't know why. (If I'm wrong about this someone tell me)

As for the other abbreviations, I'm not sure. I guess I use them so much that I don't even realize it. Let me know what some of them are! I'll help you the best I can!

Also, Welcome to our board!

Here are a few that may help you!

BP - Big Pincher
Brevy - Indonesian (Coenobita Brevimanus)
Cavie - Cavipes (Coenobita Cavipes)
CC - crazy crabs (Coenobita Variabilis)
DW - Doc Wellfish (salt mix)
E - Ecuadorian (Coenobita Compressus)
EE - Eco-Earth (coconut fiber bedding)
FB - Forest Bedding
Indo - Indonesian (Coenobita Brevimanus)
IO - Instant Ocean (salt mix)
ISO - Isolation tank
LPS - local pet store
PP - purple pincher (Coenobita Clypeatus)
Rug - Ruggie (Coeonbita Rugosus)
Straw - Strawberry (Coenobita Perlatus)

If there are any others, don't hesitate to ask. Some of us are so used to using them like Jenny said, that they become second nature to us.

A few other species that are (to my knowledge) not in the US are

Coenobita Carnescens
Coenobita Olivieri
Coenobita Purpureus
Coenobita Spinosus
Coenobita Violascens

thank you very much Wendy, that REALLY helps out. Also I appreciate you giving the scientific names as well, that way I can research them and learn more.
