I found this nice molted leg while cleaning the crabitat one time... so I decided to leave it out that night as food. The other frames show all that was left the next morning

I agree! That really looks like one of your buddies is missing a leg.

They're right, it could have been a fight.. or it could have been a couple other things.

Sometimes crabs shed legs, or segments of legs when they're stressed.

This can also happen when there's not enough humidity. But I guess less humidity can cause stress.

Hmm this thread took an interesting turn. I've never had a crab without a leg and this was a long time ago so I'm not really sure... the one that was molting where I found this always had the appropriate number of legs, and when I did the cleanout there were no others molting or missing. So... mystery?

Why doesn't it look like an exo? It was entirely hollow, no "meat" or anything... I think the crab came out of molting a couple weeks before I cleaned out the tank, this was left behind along with some other small uneaten pieces of exo that I just discarded.

Ahh ok no it was completely hollow and in the second pic it was full of sand. I think it was just very nicely molted.

Sherbert's exo looked perfect like that when she molted. She left a leg or two over, though. Crusty is molting right now.
