Tom surfaced from his most recent molt and... :eek:mg: He's huge! He did this last time he molted too. I wonder what it is? Normally I save this for their Bdays and Tom's is next month, but I just couldn't resist!

Here's Tom when I first got him, July of '06:

Tom and Bruce in January '07, after his second molt (we're up to a 1" shell opening now):

And here's Tom after his third molt! He's occupying the same shell that Bruce is wearing in the previous pic! A shell with an opening of 1 1/3"!!!  :eek:mg: And it fits!

Here's a good picture that will show you the progression over the past year. The shell openings from left to right are, 1", 7/8", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/3"

Except for my teenies and micros, Tom is my fastest growing crab, claws down!  :straw: Some crabs I have don't molt very much or don't grow very much with their molts. Others molt more often and grow much faster even when they occupy the same tank, eat the same food, and start out the same size. I wonder what the difference is?

:kissflowers:  Wow!  That was actually only 11 months, he's growing fast!  I have similar situation in my 10g with Nova & Jade & would like to to move them to a bigger tank.  It must be genetic or just healthier individuals that grow so much faster than most.  I think I will be phasing out the 10g except for use as an ISO for molters soon.

    Congrats regarding Tom!  :flower:
