    Yes Kathy, they were frozen when I chopped them. The cut pretty easily that way and don't stink NEARLY as bad. After they are chopped then I pop them in the microwave for about 20 seconds to get the ice off of them and so they soften just a bit.

    Ugh, they still stink though.

    I don't know about the dog food, but Im going to take a guess and say that's not the best for them. The pellets are definately not, most commercially made hermit crab food contains certain ingerdients that can be harmful or lethal to hermit crabs. As for the hermit crab cakes, list the ingredients please so we can take a look at it. Anything with EQ or Copper Sulfate are NOT ok for hermit crabs.

    Tonight's fare was a mixture of organic baby sweet potatoes, coconut, honey, spirulina powder & ground walnuts....all mixed together. It resembles moldy pudding, and is a horrible shade of green, too! *barf*

    In honor of our big ole Nor'easter storm I made a big pot of ham and 15 bean soup so I decided to share a part of it with them. Last night:

    Cooked ham from the ham hock (no seasonings were put in yet)
    Smashed bone from the middle of the ham hock with the marrow in it
    Chopped apple
    all on a bed of Romain lettuce

    Ahhh...it is COLD in Florida today! So, since I made a crockpot full of beef stew for the family, I made the hermies their OWN version...

    Boiled beef cubes, carrots, potatoes, & peas....sprinkled with cuttlebone & Julia_Crab's hermie cuisine:

    Mine gave thumbs up to the cheese, too. And they went nuts for the yogurt parfait I made them last week. I mixed GrapeNuts, yogurt , & then slices of strawberries & bananas...then topped it off with sliced blueberries, coconut & drizzled with honey. (I had some of that myself!!!) :icon_thumleft:

    Tonight is a seafood smorgasboard!

    Krill
    Silversides
    Freeze-dried Brine Shrimp
    Shrimp Exo
    ~~Drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil
    ~~~Sprinkled with sea salt, kelp & powdered cuttlebone
    2/25/06: Chopped silversides, frozen brine shrimp and fresh pineapple. I did a deep clean yesterday and was too tired to be creative last night.
