OMG! Petco has not one.. but THREE brand new stores in Tulsa! Okay.. today I gave in and drove the 45 minutes to Tulsa and battled the God-awful traffic. The first two stores were awesome! ( E. 71st and then the one on 41st) Employee's were very friendly and eager to hear what I thought was wrong with their setups. Thankfully... the only bad thing in those was low humidity. I suggested an automatic mister or fogger... since they can't put UTH's on the tanks. It's the way the tanks are set up... They have half calci sand and half fb/moss mix... very excellent. I found only healthy hermies in there. NO parts or dead hermies. [IMG] Both said that they would order Straws for me and promised to call me! [IMG]

Now the store on South Riverside... that's a whole different story! This jerk that I dealt there... I hope he's in my heaven so that I can make it hell for him. Rude, arrogant little b@st_rd! Grrrrrr.... dead hermie front and center... parts everywhere. I thought this little !@#$ was going to crap a gold brick when I put the dead hermie in his hand... LMAO!!! He was totally non-responsive to my suggestions.. It got ugly... really ugly! Needless to say... Petco Corporate will be getting a phone call from me.

Total hermies bought: 7 [IMG] 1 pp that crawled up my hand from the store on 71st ... 1 little Rug that was at the store on 41st... and 5 Rugs from the crappy store on Riverside. There was no way that I could leave them there!

It's been a Rug boom here...LOL I found them at Feathered Affair here in town. They've always just had pp's. I went in to get rabbit food and a mouse for Bo.... Susan and Ernie had rearranged the store.. so I was looking around. As I passed the hermie tank... I glanced down and saw GREY legs peeking out from a shell. WHOAAAAAAA!! I pulled up short and dove into the tank..LOL She had about 12 rugs.. and 4 or 5 pp's... and I bought six. [IMG]

And now I'm broke.......... heheheheee... but happy [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Hope everyone is having a greeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt weekend!!! [IMG]

    Congrats on your hermies [IMG]
I went to a Petco in Salem NH yesterday and they had sand with no forest bedding? All the others around here have a mix. The humidity was 40% and they did not have sponges in the water dishes. I asked about why and the girl said they get germs. So I said rinse them out. I pointed out the humidity level and she said Oh that's ok, we mist them a few times a day. I explained that misting them is not going to make the air in the tank humid with a light shining on it and a screen top and 1/4 inch of water in two small dishes. She said "I have alot of experience with hermit crabs, I have managed this store for 4mos. and haven't lost a crab yet. I then pointed out the dead body in the corner with all its legs missing. She said I'll take care of it and walked away to help someone else. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] I know Headquarter is going to hear from me.

I don't blame you I would have been fuming. [IMG] When I first started crabbing, I saw a dead mangled crab in a tank. So I let the employee know, and her response was "hmm they didn't like that one very much. [IMG] [IMG] I told the manager that they need to do a manditory(sp) class on costomer relations. Sounds like you had a busy day hermielove. I hate it when I go into a store with bad conditions but I hate it even more when they do not even care. Congratz on your newbies. To bad I don't have these business cards printed up yet I would have sent you some to pass out at the petco with bad conditions so at least if someone buys a hermie there and does not know how to care for it they will find us and we can teach them.

Definately call... don't bother with calling the store.. Call Corporate. You'll get faster "service". Several friends of mine have been working to clean up several stores in their areas.. and this is what works. Thankfully, the Petco's here make you fill out this slip when you purchase any animal. On that slip is the name of the person who helped you. So I've got this jerks name..hehehe.. I'm evil.. so evil when it comes to crab care and those who don't give it well.

Supermom: This kid tried to tell me that he was the "reptile specialist" and "knew his business"... you don't want to know what I was thinking. [IMG] I think all employee's that care for animals, rather it be in a big chain store or the animal shelter.. should be fully versed in at least BASIC care for the animal in their charge. As well as be taught customer relations. In a business such as that.. your customers can make or break you.. even in the big chain stores.

Cappa: Yes.. very long busy day. [IMG] But sweeeeeeet! I have my own cards that I give to Susan and Ernie to hand out to new hermie owners with simply my name, phone number and email address. I field a lot of phone calls..lol I didn't have any with me though in Tulsa yesterday... not a well planned trip, I guess.

Lucky <--- off to order her new tags

Congrats on the new hermies Lucky. It's ashame how some Petco's can have great tanks, and others are just sad. (Check out the new topic, "Email to Petco")

I've been thinking about printing a list of good websites on the back of the cards. Several come right to mind... and I can add this one as well. Having several sources of information is a good thing.
