:blower: YAY! Crabitat is set up and crabbies are happy..well they seem happier.

I took some pics of the tat for yall to see. Kirby sat in his corner for about 2 hours last night and then he started exploring. I was so happy to see him moving around, checked out the water bowl, ate a little, climbed the wood, got himself over in the corner that is really too small for him to be in, climbing back over the wood and back to his corner!

Here are some pics for ya!

    Front of the tat..

JaCi's hiding spot int he back left corner..

    Left side of tank..

    Middle of tank..

Right side of tank..and Kirby's favorite spot..

By the way, what type of lighting do you use? I had just a plain tank light in the old tank, but we have a reptile light that has 3 different bulbs from when we had a lizard a couple years ago (it comes in a lime green box) and I didn't know if I should use something more like that.

Kirby and JaCi's new home looks great!  You did an awesome job!  :blower:

I don't know about the lighting, I myself am working on getting some set up for my babies!

Thanks..I am super paranoid about bugs now and sit  in front of the tank staring at the sand waiting to see a piece move! Lol...I am just praying that they are gone!

YOu know, I went to Petco yesterday to get the tank and looked at their hermies. They had mites ALL OVER the tank! I was discusted! I wonder if I brought them home with JaCi :( I didn't ISO her since it was just Kirby but boy did I learn my lesson.

I think I want to add a few more things to the tank, but just wanted them out of the wire cage for now. I will probably wait a week and then might get two more crabbies, just little E's. I am going to inspect the tank they come from though really well and then ISO them until all is clear. I just think we need some more friends for them.

JaCi is too cute. Last night, when I put her in, she was exploring all over and found the extra shells. I watched her check out each one and was hopig that she would so a shell switch right in front of me. After 45 mins o fwatching, no shell change. So I woke up this morning and she switched, only it was back into her shell that she came home in. I was bummed but oh well. I just went back in an hour ago to check on the crabbies and she switched shells again, back to the one she was in last night. She can't make up her mind between her shell she came home in and the first one she tried. I have some pretty white ones in there I was hoping she would pick but haven't gotten lucky yet. She's too cute! Now only if I could find a new shell for Kirby. I really want to find him something with soft edges. He has a habit of getting the points of his shell caught in the netting on the one side.

I know what you mean.  I have some gourous shells but do the boys want them...No.  :steamed:pinky is too little to fit in my favortie shells and he's the one that switches.  I never know what Pinky'll be wearing.  LOL

What size of opening do you think Kirby would need?  He sure would look dashing in a Turbo!

I wonder how big those shells can get?

I too have spent, what seemed like hours, watching the the crabs.  Just hoping they will change that shell and usually it will happen for the 5 minutes that I leave to get a snack!

I would love to get Kirby a Turbo..especially with the silver or gold on it :-D  I'm still looking for the perfect one, but I am afraid if I get one online it won't be the right size.

The first time I ordered shells for my crabs I ended up shells so big that my crabs could crawl into them, shell and all.  I was so dumbfounded... I just kept measuring way to big.  After I finally learned that there other marks on a ruler besides 1/4 1/2 and 3/4 it all started to make more sense to me.

After a couple of times ordering and getting familiar with the different kinds of shells, I am getting a little better at it.  I still have a tendency of ordering too large tho

When I ordered shells a few weeks ago I didn't know what to do to make sure I got the right size soooo...... I ordered over 100 shells in bulk hahahaha. I have so many different sizes it aint funny. Now I just pick through them and put in the right sized ones for them lol. It is fun getting all those pretty shells though!  :dancin:

See, I would buy in bulk but most are smaller, and they don't see really large ones in bulk..I'm just gonna have to order a couple different sized large ones and see.

Has anyone suggested this site to you for buying the shells?  http://naplesseashellcompany.com/  I can tell you that the shells from there were AWESOME.  I bought a big order back in January and it was like Christmas all over again.  Here's the link to the thread I posted about them along w/ pics so you can see how cool they all look http://hermitcrabaddiction.net/forum/index.php?topic=364.0.  The guy who runs the store really does a terrific job on the shells.  I thought they were reasonably priced.  I spent like $60-65 with shipping and got all those shells.  The shells all have pics and he gives measurements for the crabs.  Vicki also told me that if you're having trouble getting something in particular that you can call him and he will hand pick the shells for you.  The customer service is great.  Can you tell I like it?

    Good luck!

It can be hard to find nice shells that big without paying a ton.  Try Petdiscounters.  I got a few there and Big Pete ( our jumbo) is wearing one now.  He came in a shell like Kirby is wearing,  but changed out of it right away.  It turns out his beautiful spikey white shell had a hole.  He put on another white shell though, and is still very handsome.
