I'd like to hear reviews on everyone's favorite (or least) tank heaters. Winter is coming and I hope everyone is keeping their crabbies warm and toasty. I think all of mine are the Repto UTH kind.
I have a UTH by T-Rex. Good size for my small tank, but as most UTHs do, they don't heat a lot. At least it usually keeps it out of the 60s. got a cheap one because i was running out of money. I would love one with a heat-choice strip...thing. =]
I use a UTH. My room is just sorta REALLY hot I don't need any big lamps or anything to keep it around 78. THey were not very expensive at my Seattle pet store but I've seen five gallon ones for $20.
The Ultra-therm heat matts are excellent and one of the few where placing insulation over them is OK, and improves efficiency. Beanfarm.com carries them as do other online herp places. The other nice thing is that they come in usable sizes from small to as large as 6x48 and 11x48. THe price is as good or better than the stick on kind and these are not permanently affixed - meaning then can easily be moved. I use one to heat the entire back of my 75. Nice. Keith
PS: I also use heat emitters above the tank but somehow had it in my mind that this was an uTH thread.
I use a UTH in my 10 gallon, but it isn't side mounted and doesn't do much of anything. It just keeps the temp out of the 60s. I bought it used that way. I'm thinking about getting those heat cord things that can be wrapped around the wood or something. Or maybe sticking it to the back of the tank.
