I called and the lady I talked to said her daughter came back from the beach with a whole bunch of them, and that they are "really small".

Thought some of my fellow North Cackalackians might be interested. I probably won't be in that area any time real soon (I live in Greenville) but maybe someone else will. :)

I didn't see a number to call. I will probably be going to the Raleigh area this week. I am from Greenville too.

She didn't say what beach, but I did ask if they were land hermit crabs and she said they were. I don't think she meant that her daughter CAUGHT them. Probably they were acquired from some souvenir shop.

HatterasCrabs, check the ad again, there is a phone number. I don't want to repost the full number here, but the area code is 919 (they didn't give it in the ad, and if you're calling from here in Gville then you'll probably need it). BTW howdy neighbor. ;-)

    Nice to meet you all!!

I can call this lady but not sure what to do to help these crabs. Any ideas? I'm new to this hermie thing but will most likely be going to Raleigh this week to transport a boxer (dog) to another foster home....which is the reason I spoke up! :)

Let me know of any ideas to help these crabs and I'll get back to you with any other information I might can find out.

My guess is that they're probably PPs or E's, most likely PPs as that seems to be the main kind of critter you can get from the beach shops. :)

HatterasCrabs, if you're planning on rescuing some crabs while in Raleigh, I could probably take on 5 or 6 small ones if you'd pick them up for me. When I talked to the lady she said they were "really small". Not sure what exactly that meant (she sounded like she was trying to corral a small child so I didn't keep her on the phone very long, lol). My smallest crab is in a shell roughly the size of a "shooter" marble, while my largest is close to "softball". I think the little one (Fuego) is a bit intimidated by the other crabs, even though they haven't been aggressive towards him, most of them ARE a lot bigger, and Fuego might like to have some friends closer to his size.

Just wanted to let you all know that I called this lady yesterday but had to leave a message. She hasn't returned my call so I'm guessing she got rid of the crabs one way or another.

You guys are not alone. It's just that the others in your area have tunneled down. :)
