I adopted Spaz on July 5, introduced him to the main tank July 18, and he dug down to molt a few days later. He hadn't molted with his previous family, who had him for almost a year. He came up last week, and I got some pictures of him with Curly, one of my tiny Es, next to the water bowls. I'm so excited - I hadn't seen him since July, and he made it through safely! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v50/emmac350/DSCN2940.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v50/emmac350/DSCN2941.jpg
Congrats to you and Spaz!! Wow, since July is a long time! Spaz looks beautiful and Curly is pretty adorable too!
Actually, Spaz is one of my shortest molters. My other crabs usually take between 1-2 months as well, which, considering that they're all about Curly's size, is a bit long for them. I'm just glad he is so bright! I love his coloring, and his hairy legs.
Cute, cute!!! In the second picture it looks as if Curly is checking out spaz's new look! Did you get them from petstores?
I adopted Spaz through the CrabStreetJournal Adoption Center, but I found Curly (along with my other 3 Es) at a PetCo in Montgomery, AL when waiting for my (then fiancee) husband's plane to arrive. He and I had a standing agreement that I could buy up to 4 Es if they were tiny, and I found them. I was SO excited...they're way more active than my original 2 PPs were.
I don't know that I would be able to pick one out of a crowd. I have gotten my crabs from the beach and I am pretty sure they are all pp's. I like the E's and the straws but doubt I would find them here.
Es are easy to tell based off of coloring and eye/eyestalk shape. Ruggies look a lot like Es, but they have dark spots under their eyes on their eyestalks.
