Would a crab be turned off by a shell that has some sand inside of it? or EE? Would they prefer a completely empty shell? A couple of my shells have a bit of sand in them from the crabs flipping them around, is it worth emptying out? So far only two crabs usually surface during the day! The other three i rarely see, even at night! Regardless, I'm excited about my new adoptions <3!

I will clean out my shells (boiling in a salt/fresh water combo, depending on how much salt I have mixed at the time) every month or so, but not much beyond that. Crabs are more likely to check out shells that have water in them, so don't be too careful to get all of it out after boiling. Do ensure that you let them cool before putting them in the tank, though.
