lol me too, i want to get it looking real nice.  i swear every pet store employee thinks im crazy for getting a 75 gallon tank for hermit crabs lol.  but i dont mind, gonna be awsome haha. anyways as far as keeping it warm and humid, i got a repti fogger from zoo med on the way and a new digital thermometer and hygrometer to help me with conditions inside the tank.  probably gonna get a jumbo heating pad and a zoo med hygrotherm to control the humidity from the fogger and heat from the pad.

    hey guys UPDATE!

So i noticed today when i went in my room, my girlfriends, sisters hermit crab had finally dug back up.  i don't really notice to big of a color difference but his PP is for sure a little more "bright" than it was when he went under.  he was chilling by the salt water so i hope he doesn't bury back down, but who knows. good to know its still alive, was under for about a month maybe a little shorter

Hey Solley, I recently got the zoo med hygrotherm. I really love it, it's one of my best purchases! I love that my heat and humidity are always under control and that it also has a night time feature that drops the temp down when it's dark. I have my humidifier and heating coil plugged into it. It also flashes if the temps/humidity enter a danger zone, so you can spray extra if you need to. I highly recommend it!

thanks for the info! yeah i was debating purchasing one because the price tag was a bit much.  i was just trying to find some reviews on it to see if it would be worth the money and all, looks like it is! ill for sure have to look into getting that next.  now i just have to decide on the layout and what substrate to use. I'm debating sticking to play sand or maybe getting something a little more organic.  also I'm thinking about making a little "pond" or some sort of water feature in the tank, maybe get some fiddler crabs as well

idk still a long way away from completion, but im excited!

Hey guys, got a couple more things in the mail today, along with some things i bought at petsmart today.  slowly getting all the stuff i will need to get this crabitat up and going.

this is my super accurate hygrometer/thermometer.  supposed to be fine tuned from the factory to display humidity right by +/- 1%

got some fake vines, a bendable vine, and a cool cave/tree thing lol

    I got a question though

i need to fill up the crabitat with a substrate.  i was thinking of just buying about 5 or 6 play sand bags from home depot like i have been doing in my 20 gallon.  i just need to know if play sand is indeed safe for hermit crabs to live in.  i was going to buy some sand substrate off of hermit crab patch but they say i would need like 18 bags which would equal out to 90$+ !!! i cant justify spending that in sand, any ideas??

    More updates to come...

Not all play sands are created equal, but many use the Home Depot sand.  Check to make sure the bags have no holes or slits in them for bugs to get into.
Then at home I'd open a bag and put it in something and get a magnet and go over all of it to make sure it has no metal.  Check for  pebbles and other debris.
If it appears clean, then do the same for the rest of the bags to insure your hermies aren't exposed to anything that could be dangerous.  :flower:

slowly comin together guys, hopefully ill have all the substrate by the weekend :rubhands:

got a goodie in the mail today! Repti Fogger, Ftw!

also jimmy rigged an old nighttime grilling light i had for a "moon light" for the crabitat at night time.

sorry for the blurry pic the camera's lens was opened for a long time, sucks shooting without a tripod lol.  also i think i have decided to make a sort of hill in my crabitat.  sand being about 10" or so deep on the left side and a slow decending to like 5" or so on the right (where the fogger and the grill light is.  also gonna have the tree thing in the spot i have it right now + substrate of course.  The light makes the fog really pop when it comes out, so i like it by the light, but if im gonna do a hill, i kind of want the fogger to be on the otherside so it can cascade down the hill.  idk we will see what happens haha

    enjoy...

geesh! where do you all find all these good sales on tanks? Here they are all over 75$. I use play sand from Lowe's it's about 4$ or 5$ for a bag, I think it's 60lbs. I haven't had any troubles with it.

Ohh, keep taking pics, this is fun watching a tank coming together. So how does your fogger work? Do you just have it on to boost humidity? Have you used one before? It looks very cool!

craigslist.org ftw!  just be careful, and make sure to contact people over the phone to make sure they are a real person and know what they are selling.  there are scammers out there, but for the most part, they are obvious to determine and 99% of the time craigslist sellers are legit sellers.

Im actually about to head out now to pick up some sand!

Thanks! as for right now i am using it to boost humidity, when i break down and buy a hydrotherm from zoo med, ill plug it in to it along with some heating bulbs and it will turn on and off when need be, to keep the humidity and temp right all the time.  as for if i used one before, this is the first one i have owned and seems pretty awsome, looks good too!

    Hey all,

so i went to HD today and got some play sand.  before i purchased the sand, i made sure non were slit open, or had alot of debris in it.  also looked all over the bag to find a caution bow saying it contained silica.  there was non so i am assuming there is non in it, plus it did say on the ba that the sand was pre-washed for "safe, clean sand"  anyways 5 50lbs. bags later this is what i got.....

i know the sand isn't very moist but just did a quick dry run to see if the hermit's liked it, and I'm guessing they did, I've never seen them crawl around so much haha.

too bad one of my other crabs buried himself last night so he missed out on all the fun today lol

Anyways this crabitat is long from finished.  have 2 big pieces of cholla wood on the way, and gonna get some more plants and greenery for inside the tat, along with moss and a couple bags of zoo med "tropical mix substrate"

    more updates to come...

I bet the crabs loved all the roaming room! I have the same sand as you. I also tried the toys r us sand, but where I live this playsad had a lot of metal in it when I ran a magnet through it, so I went with the Home depot. I've had all 4 crabs molt successfully in it. I also mixed in coconut fiber on one side with the sand, that is the side they dug down to molt in.

I saw you have an E (I'm jealous), does it come out to play a lot during the day, or mainly at night?
