What do you use on your second level so the crabs don't slip around? I'd ultimately like to use moss up there, but I think they'd still slip around some won't they?

My second level is made out of plexiglass and I used wine corks as a side, so what ever substrate I use is enclosed.
Does that help any? Do you have a picture of your 2nd level? [IMG]

You could also try cutting a piece of that plastic canvas to fit (the kind with all the little squares) available at craft stores and Wal-Mart. I would not recommend getting colored canvas though. I discovered that the color leaked into water when I was experimenting with a filtered basin idea a long time ago (I was going to use it as tractionon the bottom of the water pool). I'd think if the color could seep into the water, it probably isn't a great idea to use in the tank.

Thanks for that link! Their shipping is outrageous!! [IMG] Wonder if there's a local place I can find. LOL After all, I am in the 3rd largest producing state of wine. LOL

That's a bummer about the shipping. I ordered mine there, but it was more than a year ago-and I have noticed the site has changed...I'm sure they have upped their shipping charges too. And I bought-I think-1000 corks at once so the shipping wasn't as bad for the quantity.

hermit-crabs.com says cedar and pine annoys hermit crabs,so definately do not use any tree stuff from that! lol [IMG] not sure if moss ( from a diff. kind of tree!) would make them slip around.... I dont think it would, maybe a litte unless the moss is stable w/ something.. they might throw the moss down! Well, Hope that helped [IMG]
