If you get rice crspy's and scrunch them and put them in your food dish the hermit crab LOVES them! The only one that hates it is clowny. Try to put their antennas in the food lightly

Crabs can eat human cereals? What about all the strange chemicals in them?

    Thanks,

It depends. Cheerios and Chex both have much less of the chemicals in them and I've offered both. No one liked either, though. I mean, I gave them a cheerio and there were no marks on it. I gave them a piece of Rice Chex and nothing was taken. So I've stopped offering it. I wonder if they just like them if they aren't getting something regularly in their diet? I give mine a really balanced diet, so they get a TON of options every night.

I offer them weekly, maybe a little less often. They also get bread and other carbohydrates and starches. Some nights b=my crabs don't eat much and others they eat lots. Sometimes it just depends on how active they're feeling from my experience.

What kind of bread are you offering? It is important for crabs to get starches for energy, but bread has yeast (not on either safe or unsafe list) and other leavening (which usually contain high amounts of aluminum, and are def. not safe). I'd stick to potatoes and cooked rice for crab starches, as they're still getting the starches they need without the extraneous ingredients that a lot of people shouldn't even be eating, let alone our crabs. I tend to stick with things that crabs might be exposed to in the wild, and I can't say I know of any bread-growing trees! Potatoes and rice do grow in the wild, so I stick with them.

bread is bad for your crabs (like having a stomach ache).

Are hermit crabs supposed to have cooked rice, or raw?

Mine like cooked better...I don't think I've ever seen them eat raw rice (it's in a few of the Addiction store mixes I have) but they go nuts over cooked Basmati rice.
