My husband and I went to the local Petsmart to pick up some climbing foliage and I, of course, had to look at the hermit crabs. The tank looked pretty to the eye. No salt water, though, and commercial crab food. There were alot of hermies. I had the salesgirl take the covering off and it hit me. The smell of death. I don't know how they could have missed it. Just one dead one. That's all it took. Anyway, I walked out with four crabs, very much alive. The only problem is, the smell of death is still on them. I gave them two mild salt baths. They reek! I made them a temporary iso out of a critter keeper because I thought the smell might contaminate my ten gallon iso. I don't know how long it will take the smell to go away. I hope I can save them. Has anyone had a similar experience? I hope the smell doesn't last until they molt. Wish me luck.
