My daughter stuck her littest pet shop hermit crab in there...lol
I have to take it out. I forgot it was in there. Not sure what that thing might be painted with.
The little one Rose is doing very well. I was afraid she might die. I saw her eating with her little pincher tonight. She has been trying all of the food in the tank. She sat in the clay pot and ate forever....I have fruit in it. She is a cutie. I can't wait until she molts and grows back her 2 limbs and pincher parts. That is why she sat so crooked in the pic...oh and she came out far enough for me to see she is a girl. I think she is the only girl.

Are male crabs more common than female crabs?

I have no idea if males are more common. I was wondering myself.
I was thinking when they actually take them and put them in painted shells if they put back the females....Rose came in a natural shell all of the others came in a painted one. Probably just the luck I am thinking though.

In terms of sex, I believe it's half half.
I have a pretty good 50/50 with my crabs. Maybe one gender has a bit more than the other by 1 or 2 crabs, but aside from that, it's kinda even. I have 18 in total.

Of my six, I've only been able to examine four of them and all four appear to be males. There was one I wuestion though because I'm not sure if the gonopores will be dark black or a light tan color? Can anyone enlighten me? I'm not counting on ever finding out if Hercules is a he or a she....he's very stubborn about coming out....much less upside down. Spooky is pretty much the same way, so my odds of determining the sex of Spooky appear the be very slim as well. Really doesn't matter too much to me anyway.

The colors vary, depending on the crab's exo color. As long as they have that dot, it's a female no matter what the color is. I have some crabs that are very obvious with their dark (shade black) dot and others have a blending color. I too, don't really care for much in terms of sex. I don't see any difference between the two anyway, so as long as they're sweet, who cares :p
