I have been thinking about getting fiddler crabs after i get my hermit crab tank up and running, i have a couple of 20 gallon tanks that i'm not doing anything with and am wondering if anyone has fiddler crabs and know of a good and reliable site that is all about fiddler crabs and their tank setup!

if you do, have you ever tried to combine hermit crabs with fiddlers in the same tank?

i have heard if you put a divider in the substrate and make one side good fo hermies and the other good for fiddler crabs then they can live together, but i have no experience with fiddler crabs

NO, you can't combine fiddlers with hermies... they'll eat eachother. I kept fiddlers for a while...
Unlike Walmart and other places seem to think, they need BRAKISH water, or Brackish... or whatever. That's kind of like bay water. Not completely salt, not completely fresh. And they need access to both land and water, but more water than land. Places like Petsmart just gave them very shallow water where they could be out of it and in it at the same time. I wouldn't suggest that but maybe fill your tank 1/3 of the way full, and use sand to slope it up so they can have a beach. Be careful about getting the water so deep that the slope has to be close to the top of the tank... they are GREAT escape artists!

I would be worried that they would try and harm each other but that sounds like a good idea. I wonder if fiddler crabs are more active than hermit crabs, and do the dig down to molt?

I had fiddler crabs for a while and the care is very similar...but I'd be concerned they'd eat my hermies when they molted or changed shells.

Well some reason is that fiddler crabs have to be in water. Like half land half water and the hermit crab may drown if they go in the water.
If you ever want t fiddler crab make sure they don't go in the filter cause I seen many die in my pet store.

No, you can't play with them. They are similar to aquatic hermit crabs and spend most of their time under water, coming out mainly to sun themselves.

They are fun to watch, though... I named all of mine "Num-num" because they were hard to tell apart... and they crawled around on the bottom picking things up and eating them, like they were going "num num num num"... it's really cute! And if you put some fake aquarium plants in there they will crawl to the top and jump off and float back down to the bottom... they are really fun. :)

That's cute! :D I was watching one of those animal shows and in one there were fiddler crabs and they were so cute! :D The way they walk side to side always makes me giggle. The crabs lived in holes for when the tide came in so they would be protected. Afterwards they would crawl out and walk around the beach.

Yea... they are pretty cool to watch. They live in the wild down here, and I loved watching them, but if you moved they'd see you and dash back into their holes.

Nope, mine never ran away. They could care less if I was watching them or not. But I think that's because they came from a pet store and they were used to people.
They were less shy than my hermit crabs, I'd say.
Also keep in mind you can't have any other fish in the tank with the crabs... the crabs will eat them.
