I saw her when I came home from school at 4 and now it's 5:45! I put her in an ISO tank with four other shells, including her old one. She isn't interested in any of them but instead was drinking, sitting, and climbing for the past hour and a half. She is on the cocohut right now. I'm really scared! What should I do? Also, how do I safely pick up a naked hermit crab?

How long have you had the crab(s) in question?
    almost two years
Do you know what species they are?
    PP
Did you/Do you isolate new crabs?
I didn't isolate her when she was new. I isolate newbies now, but I didn't know anything about hermit crabs when I got her.
    Tank Size:
10 gallon~ main tank (looking to upgrade) She is in a really tiny ISO right now.

    digital
Did you test your humidity gauge for accuracy?
    yes
    Placement of Gauges:
    in the dirt
Temperature and Humidity levels in your tank: Degrees %
    Main tat: 70*, 73% humidity
    ISO: 70*, 71% hum
Heating Source (if UTH how much of the tank does it cover and how much substrate is over it):
    not any yet.
Lighting Source (type bulbs & wattage):
    not any yet
Do you have at least one area for each crab to hide?
    yes
Is there any metal in your tank?
    no
What types of climbing things/toys do you have in your tank?
    ISO: coco hut, log
Main tat: coco hut, log, cholla wood, cork bark, fake plant
What type of water do you use (dechlorinated tap/spring water)?
    filtered
If you use dechlorinating drops-which kind?
    no
Do your provide fresh and salt water? If yes, what type of salt mix do you use?
yes. I use hermit crab salt water
Do you provide dishes for water or just sponges?
water dishes, sometimes sponges in water dishes
How many extra shells do you have for each crab?
only five for my four hermit crabs! i need tog et a lot more. I put four in for Ocean.
Did you boil the shells prior to putting them in the tank?
    no
Do you bathe your crabs? If yes, how often and what do you use to bathe them in?
I used to sometimes but now I only give mite check baths and newbie intro baths
Do you only handle your crabs with clean hands?
    usually
How often do you handle them?
    every day

    She's probably de-stressing.

Do you have her in an ISO tank?

If not you should watch her closely to make sure she doesn't get bullied or hurt herself.

Make sure the tank is humid enough and the temp is good.

In the meantime, just keep a close eye on her.

    :(

Okay, that sounds good, for the time being.

The image isn't showing up, do you have Photobucket or something, so I could see it?

YAY! FINALLY! :D She went into her shell! :D I'm so relieved!
I don't know how that link got there. I don't remember pasting it.
Thanks for your help! Can I put her in the main tank right away or wait and make sure she stays in her shell?

    Awesome!

You should probably leave her in there for about 30 more minutes, just to make sure she's okay.

Still, keep an eye on her, make sure she's not acting strange, other then that she should be fine!

    :)

She's just sitting there, resting. Being naked must be so stressful! Why do you think she did it?

Great, let her rest, it's not a good idea to handle her right now.

There's various reasons why she might have done it, such as:Temp/Humidity Changes,De-Stressing, or as simple as she didn't have any food/or water.

Yes, Raise the humidity to 75-78%. You can get a plexiglas lid. Also, I just learned from CSJ that even if you use filtered water, you still have to use drops. I use reptisafe. Also, an upgrade is looking like a good idea now. Be sure not to get more crabs until then. How deep is your dirt? I might also not handle them more than once a day. I believe it's stressful but I guess it gets them used to you. I almost never handle mine. They are so shy anyway.

Now Ocean in naked again and not moving! :( Yesterday I put her in the new water bowl that we got to make sure she can fully submerge and can get out, but once I put her in, I realized the water was too cold. So I took her out right away and tried to make the water warmer. But then she came out of her shell! Last time, she only went back in her shell when I put her on it, so I tried it that time, but then she stopped moving! :( I put a coconut hut over her because I didn't want to move her to the ISO since it would stress her out more. This morning, she is out of the coconut hut and not moving again, still naked. She is on a shell like she wants to get in it but is motionless. She has been like that for a while now. I don't smell anything. I think she is sleeping. How can you tell whether naked hermit crabs are sleeping or not? She has been naked for almost twelve hours. I'm so frightened! What should I do??? Please say a prayer for Ocean!

Ok. GO over your whole setup. Check humidity, temp or he may just be stressed out with all the other crabs. A new tank would be a good idea. Also make sure the substrate is deep enough and you have plenty of shells. It may be a shell fight.

She is still in the same position as before! Do you think she could have been sleeping for that long? Ocean was like that in the morning and she still isn't moving now after school. :( How can you tell if a naked hermit crab is sleeping? What does a sleeping naked hermit crab look like? It couldn't have been a shell fight. I saw her come out of her shell after I took her out of the water bowl. She came out because the water was too cold. The temp is 72* and the humidity is 70% but I'm making it higher.
Should I mist her a little or would this stress her out too much? I don't want her gills too dry up! Ocean has been in this position for a while.

Mist her tank but not her. It stresses her but you can mist the tank to raise humidity. Make sure that her shell is clean. Wash it out and make sure it has not scratching spots or dirt in it that might cause her to come out. Make sure you put a coconut hut over her and that is is 75-78% humidity. Also make sure there is no hot heat lamp because that might dry her up if she is not in a coco hut.

The humidity is actually too high: eighty-something percent. I fanned the tank a little when I noticed. I washed out her shell and put a coco hut over her. She is in the same position and gave no response when I moved her away from the edge so I could put the coconut hut over her! :( She seems like she is sleeping but wouldn't she wake up if I touched her? I don't have any favorites, but I had Ocean the longest, almost two years now. Nothing bad can happen to her!!!

It's probably not a good idea to touch her right now, she may be gentle for now.

As for everything you did, great job:)

Just keep the temp/humidity to a positive level.

Thank you for your help! I'm just wondering if anybody knows what naked hermit crabs look like when they are sleeping.

    I've always wondered that too!

I wonder if Hermit Crabs close their eyes, I'm pretty sure they don't, but who knows...

I'm so worried! :( I smell a faint fishy smell, but not a bad smell, more like a molting smell. I'm sure she's not molting though. Strangely, my mom doesn't smell anything.
