Thanks for the heads up Deedee, but the ingredients on the package didn't list pine.
I did dip it in salt water. When I see it starting to fall apart or they eat on it, I will take it out.

Did the ingredients have a bunch of rubber and chemicals in it or was it just like 'Log'. I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to the crabs consuming it. I think it's meant for hamsters and guinea pigs and I don't think they eat the same things as hermit crabs....
But, Your tank is AWESOME I just love it! How can you make such awesome tank? I thought mine was pretty darn cool when I added the second level shell shop and moss pit but that looks just great! :D

You are right, not everything for hamsters, etc is hermie preferred. No chemicals, or unpronounceable ingredients were listed.

Just to be on the safe side, I am going to pull it out, take off the top and use it for a roof on a lego hut. I pulled out my sons' legos and will create something.
(there was a reason why I saved their toys.):D

I always do that too; if I can't pronounce it then it's not going in.:) I LOVE the little roof thing on it, though! I had a giant coco hut with a roof of straw but the straws fell out one by one and I finally decided that, unless I wanted the floor of my tank covered in straws, I better take it out. I ended up just yanking off the roof. Maybe you could make a little lean to on the side of a rock. Also, what are the ingredients? It still might be safe. Is it like wooden or rubber?

The ingredients list Alfalfa, fescue straw, honey, glycerin, and starch. I didn't want to take a chance since many companies do not list all of the ingredients. I saved the roof and created a new hut. In fact, while I was on a role, I made a second three sided hut with a lego roof.
