I apologize for the non-crab topic, but I am such a "proud mother", and I wanted to share with my "crab family", and I thank you in advance.

This is my son who is serving in the Army's 82nd Airborne.  He is in the Parachute Division, and can rapidly deploy anywhere in the world in 18 hours or less.  They earned the nickname "Red Devils" and "Devils in Baggy Pants" by the enemy a number of years ago.

He is a Staff Sergent E-7, and has been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq five times over his nine years in the Army.

He's the tall one on the right...

They sacrifice and do without so much while they are deployed, but they do their job willingly and obediently.  They put their own lives in harm's way so that we don't have to.

When you go to bed tonight and snuggle in under your covers all nice and warm, say a little thank you.

When you see a soldier, don't be shy, go up to him/her and shake their hand and thank them.

~ To All Of You Who Are Or Have   ***SERVED***... [size=14pt]Thank You

Yay! 82nd dudes are pretty awesome, I agree. One thing, though - Staff Sergeant is E-6, E-7 is Sergeant First Class. :)

We have a lot of brave men who have inlisted in all area's of the Air Force, Marines, Navy & Army that come from our small communities in Illinois. We also have had some tragic deaths and severe injuries that have sent these boys home. They are very brave for what they do. Standing applause from me!

Opps Emmac, you're right!  Just habit...he was recently promoted to E-7 so I need to get my act together.   :chuckle:
    What Branch are you in?

You're absolutely right Scoobdoo, Every Branch of Service is so important, from the Coast Guard on up.   :flower:

...and...let's not forget the very important job everyone does here at home---policemen, firefighters, emergency personnel, etc. etc.

I have a cousin in the Army 82nd Airborne as well.
And I say a prayer every night that we have men and women brave enough to do what they do for our freedom!

Thanks Vicki and everyone for allowing me to share.
It's great too to hear about others who are serving, and to know that others are proud of our military men and women.

By the way, my son is the one that got started with a hermit crab many moons ago.  Boy, what I didn't know back then!!  I can't believe the poor thing actually lived for three years.

I included a couple of pics of my tank and a few hermies in his Christmas packages and he was actually thrilled.  Now every time he calls he asks how they are.  At least someone in my family doesn't think I've gone off the deep end!  :hermez:

Thanks for sharing! It's sometimes hard to think about the people we know are out there serving our country, because we can't see them. Please, send him my thanks and give him a big hug the next time you can!
