NEW ITEMS - NOVEMBER - Hiawatha Moss
Is there something special about it? I was using a reptile moss from the pet store and gave a little to the to a friend to use. She said she had to throw it away because it grew mold so do you know off hand if this one does do that?
I was going to buy some moss today in Pet Value but I'm unsure how it works. How often does it have to be changed? Does it go moldy? How do I know when to change it?
I've never had moss go moldy. Was there anything in the moss, such as did the crabs drag some food in there?
I have moss pits in mine. It's great for humidity. I always use salt water when I wet my moss. Salt water does help with mold on wood items. Maybe it does the same with the moss.
I don't usually have to change out the moss. The crabs snack on it. Just make sure it's not spanish moss as that's unsafe for crabs.
Yeah I'm beginning to think her crabs may have just pulled food in and she didn't notice because I have never had that problem either.
Ok well maybe I'll go back to Pet Value tomorrow and pick up a package of it. They only had one left so heres hoping it's still there tomorrow!
Good luck, I do love how much humidity the moss creates in the tank when it's wet.
Is beaked moss ok for the crabs?
I've never heard of beaked moss.
Me either...I found this though...
Zilla Beaked Moss Reptile Bedding at PETCO
Yeah they have it on clearance at my Petco so I was wondering if it would be worth the purchase.
Ok over on CSJ I did a search for beaked moss. Apparently its conifer and crabs can't have that. So it's on the unsafe list.
thanks for the info Vicki. What kind of moss do you recommend for my new moss pit?
People have said there's moss at Michaels they use. It's just a green moss. Hiawatha is another one. I use that.
do you know where I can find Hiawatha moss other than your store? I am setting up my moss pit this weekend.
Craft stores?? Plant nurseries?
Sorry to ask so many questions but i want to make sure I get the right stuff. What am i looking for when i go to a nusery or craft store??
Its better to ask and get it right then to use the wrong thing and hurt them.
