How long it takes a crab to finish molting really depends on the size of the crab. I have had a few crabs molt this month and I noticed they each buried themselves completely under so that I could see them through the glass on the bottom, they went under for at least a week before the actual molt, then they stayed down there for about a week. Then they each came up on their own, and two of them already changed shells following their molts.

It really does depend on the crab. I have one that burys himself 1/2 way. The others bury themselfs deep.

Yes, they bury themselves and their shells when they molt. Smaller crabs take less time...my small ones take on about 2 weeks. Mine usually just bury deep enough so that they are covered.
