when a crab goes under the sand to molt, does he come out of his shell?
-if they come out of the shell to molt, do they take the shell under with them, and then come out, leaving the shell under the sand with them?

-also, when molting, do they come out at night to eat/drink? and if they do, do they do that naked?

I have only had one molt but from all the research I have found, the crabs do not come out of their shell to molt. They do not molt the abdomen so they don't really have a reason to leave their shells

They store up food and water before a molt in a "molt sac". They do not come up nightly for food and water during a molt, but stay down until they are finished. Hope this helps.
