My crab is up and about, climbing on it's hut and looking good. It's eaten basically all it's exoskeleton except for a claw and a couple legs and a tiny amount they were attached to. How long do I keep it isolated since it's moving around? Thanks to everyone for all their advice. I'll tell you getting through my first successful molt was ALMOST as stressful for me as the crab;).

I bet it was stressful! I'm already worried about Ocean, who will molt soon. Wait till the new exoskeleton hardens up.

Okay....really stupid question. How do you know when the exoskeleton is hard? I was thinking since it molted on this past Friday, I'd keep it isolated until at LEAST this Friday.

If it's soft, it usually looks soft and pink. Touch your hermit crab gently to see if it's hard.

DO NOT TOUCH A SOFT HERMIT CRAB!!!!!! It will look pink, you can tell when it is hardened by looking at it. The rule is once the crab is eatting and walking around you can add it back to the tank after a quick dip in some water to wash off any molting smells he/she may have.

Sorry! I didn't know you weren't supposed to touch it.
