Today we took Loki, my Sheltie to Petsmart for the grand opening of the PetHotel today. I got some treats and Millet for my Cocketiel, Spike and of course the end of the aisle dumps right out at the crab tank. I wander over to take a cursory glance and I was HORRIFIED! Among the strewn legs and body parts, I saw this shell with a HUGE hole in it! It made Gwen's old shell look like the RITZ!!! I was FURTHER appauled by the fact there was a CRAB in that shell! The sales girl actually came up to me to ask if I needed help and I said "No, but your crab tank does!" I pointed at the body parts. She just shrugged. "And look at this poor little guy!" She shrugged again and said, "There are empty shells in there, it just won't change!" (IT???)

I pick up a few of the shells and they were all occupied. The only ones in there that were empty were painted or too small - which I mentioned. She just looked at me blankly. I actually WALKED AWAY!!!!!! But half way down the aisle I turned right back around and yelled across to the sales girl..."I'm taking him!"

She brought their patented tupperware and dumped him in. She (as if doing me a big favor) said that she would give him to me for the $4.49 price instead of the $6something price. Un-huh. Then she said, "I doubt it'll change shells for you." I handed the tupperware back to her and asked her to wet a paper towel with some dechlor water and put it in with "HIM".

My husband saw me and rolled his eyes. When I handed him the dish his mouth dropped open. "How can they survive like this???"

We brought our new little PP home and discovered IT is a HE. He's very VERY friendly, outgoing and so very gentle!!!! He LOVES climbing, hence his name Tarzan.

Here he is in the tupperware....

It took him about 10 minutes to discover the shells and change.

I guess we're just becoming the crabby house for unwanted and abused crabbies!!!

Then while looking around the tank I noticed my DOLPHIN shell was missing from the pile. Hmmmm. I found it...occupied! WHOOOPIE!
Our shy little Gwen is in it!

HE is soooo beautiful! Congrats on the save. Tarzan is a safe place now. Good luck with him...

I don't even want to get started on their conditions, so I'll end now!

dude thats exactly how i baught samuel jackson! he is a medium pp and his shell was a little more broken and yellow, he changed shells the night i put him in there and i threw away the old one, i wish i keeped it to show you all but i didn't.his abdomen was hanging out everytime he moved! and he would fall out of it ecause he couldn't fi all of his abdomen in it! it was way too small it was like mor a small crab and he is a medium and he is missing 2 legs a toe and oen of those tiny legs in the back. he is doing fine, he is sitting inside a fake rose right now.

I almost came to tears. You are just like me and everyone else here. WE see a little one in distress and scoop him up. Great save and all the best.

Thanks! He's still going strong and climbing around the tank. He likes to hang in the nets. He's definately well named.
