Right after a molt, crabs tend to be more...well...crabby. :) My Rocky did the same thing right after he surfaced (I took him out just to count legs and feelers and such) - he just sat there scraping his claw open and closed on my palm. I let him alone for a week and now he's happy as can be to be handled.

Also, I love how crabs grow so much during some molts - I had one crab, Benny, go from tiny to small in one molt, and another, Slightly, go from micro to tiny right on the edge of small in one molt. What's funny is Slightly moved into the shell the Benny vacated. Benny is wearing the shell that Rocky (the cranky one who actually just moved up from small to medium) just discarded after his molt.

i need to get more shells now.. grr i'm sick but need to get to pet store, and that's funny, yea she did the exact same thing, but now she dissapeared, so she probably went under ground :) Anoke in the ISO is in the moss pit, and it smells wierd in there, but i cant place it... can anyone help what i'm looking for to smell? though it might just be me, i can breath through my nose, but im still sick, so yea..

Oh dear... is it rotting fish? I hope Anoke hasn't passed....:( It could also be any food that might have gone bad, too...

It seems my crabs are always freaked out when they come up from a molt. Normally friendly, even gregarious, crabs turn skittish. I leave them be for at least a week or so and don't handle them. And generally try to prevent any extra stress to them.

=/ you mean you mistook one hermie for another? It happens, but wasn't Lyla in ISO? or did you mix them up beforehand?

Exos don't rot - they are kind of like shells; once they're off and dried off, they stay like that forever. You can save the uneaten parts, break them up, and feed them as a calcium source later; mine like it when I do that.
