Greetings to you all !!! :)
Totally new here - my very first post !

I'm sorry to say that I don't have any crabs up for adoption for you, shelbers91. :(
I stumbled upon this site via a Google search for: "Hermit Crab Adopt Pittsburgh".

Ya see, our 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter have expressed an extreme interest in obtaining a few Hermit Crabs as pets and as we firmly believe that ALL living creatures have the right to be treated humanely and with respect - it is critical for us to teach our children that no venture such as this is ever taken lightly or on a whim.
So we always do our research first: learn, learn, learn - then plan, then prepare. And we always adopt/rescue pets - come to think of it - I don't believe we have ever "purchased" one !

My husband will be the habitat/equipment specialist and I am in charge of the research. (And we all know who will *really* be taking care of them anyway, right?)

I realize that my post is WAY off topic but I decided to reply here first as I thought it would be advantageous to connect with local folks. I also hope to get the time soon to post a new thread later with more specifics, questions, and to introduce myself properly. At least for now I wanted to join the forum. I know that I have a great deal to learn and I would be so grateful for all of your collective experience and valuable advice.

    Thank You,
    Sam

P.S. We know absolutely nothing about "Hermit Crabs" - only that both my husband & I were truly fascinated while watching what looked like hundreds of them climbing all over this giant rocky section of shoreline of the Atlantic on Pinonnes Beach in Puerto Rico some many years ago - WOW !

If you read her post Alex, she says she does not have any that her children want them and she is just doing some research right now ;)

So sorry to just disappear like that after my first post folks...
Right after I posted we all became very ill - possibly N1H1 ??? - and it slowly ran through the entire family for weeks. ( Staying up all night researching Hermit Crabs probably didn't do much to help my immune system ! :)

Well, thank goodness, like I said, we're NOT like most people who would have just bought the hermit crabs from the pet store that day on a whim... as I'm sure they'd be dead or darn near close because we could barely take care of ourselves let alone any new pets.

We all have a great deal of work to catch up on from being sick so for now the "Hermies" are on the back burner for a bit. But I plan to be back as soon as I can and respond to the private messages.
We all have much to learn from you.
    Thanks,
    Sam
