Fritteritter, how did you make the pool? I want to make one once I get a bigger tank.
She used pieces of glass and a filter. It's like five gallons because of the filter. She told me about it through PM. Fritteritter, Maybe it would be helpful if you made a thread. I think lots of people would be interested.
I'm pretty stoked to enter the July Photo Contest.
I'm just having problems getting ideas for it. Everyone's pics are so cute!!
Good luck y'all
Sure, I will make an instructional page about it sometime to go with my other hermit crab advice on HubPages.
Micro instructions: I used 1/2" acrylic because the hardware store did not have any thick glass and that thickness of acrylic is strong enough. Have them cut it to the right size, then cut off the two bottom corners so that it sits on top of the existing silicone in the tank without digging in. Apply aquarium silicone all around, slide it in place, then reinforce the perimeter with one or two more applications of silicone, smoothing it with your finger. Let it cure for 24 hours, then test with water, fix any leaks, then in 2 days it's ready for crabs and water. Gravel in the bottom gives them something to walk around on (pea gravel @ hardware store, $3 for 50 pound bag).
Also, I'm a guy
Woah, fritteritter! I never saw such a cool pool!!!! Would you mind if I took a dip?
LOL! You'll splash all the water out! Just be sure to jump in the fresh water pool unless you want to re-mix all that salt water
Great photos everyone. Man its going to be hard to chose which one vote for, good luck all
Fritteritter I love your tank. Your hermit crabs are so lucky.
SOrry. But thanks for the info. I might make a pool but I'm thinking something much smaller. Maybe a gallon max. I was just at the pet store and the filters are pretty big. I think that might be a little extreme for my little bowls.
Yeah they're big. With 1 gallon it's not a huge deal to change the water often, maybe if you get a cheap air pump and an air stone it will help to keep the water moving a bit to extend the time between cleanings. In that case, do a fresh water pool and salt water bowl to avoid wasting your salt mix.
We should probably start a new topic
Right. The airstones I found were pretty big too, though. Oh well.
The Contest will end Sunday, July19th at midnight.
Hurry and get your photo posted if you haven't done so yet.
Geez Fritteritter has a nice picture =(
I'm jealous of your tank.
