I lost Gertrude on the January 5th. My family buried her in out Pet Cemetary (Backyard) on the sixth.

It will be hard to get over the little hermie.
But She had a good life.

I will soon be adding a new member to the family.

Congrats on the newbie! If you have a digital camera, we'd love to see pictures when she has settled in.

I wouldn't say that it's common, but sometimes there may be agression between two crabs that have not previously been kept together. To prevent this, make sure there are plenty of extra shells, and hiding spots for everyone. Also make sure they're getting good nutrition (commercial hermit foods are often not all that good). Enough protein, in particular, is important to prevent problems with agression. Most pet stores sell frozen krill or silversides in their fish department, and you can also offer a bit of unseasoned fish or chicken. I make sure my crabs have a protein-rich food like this at least once a week.

What kind of proteins are there that are affordable.
I havent gotten the whole diet thing worked out. I give then commercial food and peanut butter once in awhile.

I could use some serious help when it comes to my herbies diets.

    Thanks
    Sondra

Poor crab. Hopefully your new one will make friends with your old one.
